Why the number of international students in Canada is soaring

The number of international students visiting Canada has been increasing rapidly in recent years.

The reason for this is the background of ‘cheap tuition fee + social atmosphere welcoming international students + expansion of immigration literature for international students’, and especially in the case of Korean students, the exchange rate is very good, so it is more advantageous in terms of tuition fees.
Meanwhile, among four-year universities, the University of Toronto is consistently rated as the most prestigious university in Canada.

The article below is about world university rankings.

While Canada is emerging as a preferred destination for international students, the University of Toronto ranked first in the nation in university evaluation. According to the 'World University Rankings 2019' report released by US News & World Report, the University of Toronto ranked 20th in the international ranking, the highest among Canadian universities, followed by the University of British Columbia (UBC) and McGill University in Montreal at 29th and 29th respectively. It rose to number 43 and entered the top 50.
In addition, McMaster University (130th), Montreal University (136th), Alberta University (137th), and Calgary University (178th) were ranked in the top 200. The global university ranking was evaluated based on 13 items, including research performance and paper citations, for 1,200 universities in 76 countries around the world. Meanwhile, as international students flocked to Canada, the number of study visas issued as of December 31 last year was 572,400, a 16% increase from the previous year.

In particular, study visas have soared by 180% over the past 10 years, and it has been revealed that Canada is gaining popularity as a preferred country for international students. According to the statistics of international students by country of origin last year, India had the most with 172,000, followed by China with 143,000, and South Korea with 24,200.
In addition to the low tuition fees compared to the US and Europe and a welcoming social atmosphere, the government's expansion of immigration doors for international students also fueled this phenomenon, it was analyzed. The federal government is actively attracting foreign students who have graduated from domestic universities to settle in Korea through various programs such as express immigration with the purpose of using them as human resources.
It plans to accept 1 million new immigrants by 2020, and it is known that international students will account for a large portion of them. Provincial governments, including Ontario, are also operating various immigration programs to attract college graduates.
